Lo so lo so...non parliamo di Trilobiti questa volta, ma una scoperta così sensazionale ed eccezionale merita la Prima pagina in questo Blog!
Pochi mesi fa, nei livelli fossiliferi della Green River Formation è stato portato alla luce il secondo e quasi all' 80% completo fossile di "Protohippus sp."
Usiamo le virgolette poiché il campione deve essere studiato...e quindi non ci avventiamo in classificazioni troppo specifiche e azzardate. La prima apparizione di questi "piccoli cavallini" era già avvenuta circa 2 milioni di anni dopo la comparsa de genere Hyracotherium e si pensa che i due - tre generi, coesistessero, nei medesesimi ambienti. Questo a testimoniare anche la rapida evoluzione e la radiazione paleo-geografica degli Equidae dall'Eocene fino alla loro completa "esplosione evolutiva" nel Miocene. "Olive", così è stato chiamato il nuovo cavallino, è stato scoperto alcuni mesi fa dai Fratelli Mark and Mike Oliver. Immediatamente dopo la scoperta i due fortunati paleo-hunter, hanno contattato Jason Cooper and Brock Sisson per le operazioni di scavo e di preparazione.
I due amici, simpaticamente definiti della "dinosaur dynasty", insieme all'aiuto di Ben Cooper (American Paleo company, preparatore di trilobiti di fama internazionale) hanno lavorato alacremente per portare alla luce questo meraviglioso campione.
Dopo lunghi mesi di paziente preparazione al microscopio e anche grazie all'aiuto delle nuove tecnologie "Olive" é finalmente pronta per fare il suo debutto al Grande pubblico e noi di Trilobiti.com siamo orgogliosi di informare gli appassionati e i professionisti del settore di questa importantissima scoperta. Siamo sicuri che un così meraviglioso fossile potrà essere studiato ed esposta in uno dei più prestigiosi musei del mondo e questo anche per rimarcare l'inossidabile collaborazione in america tra privato/pubblico. Unico rammarico da Buon Italiano, e che forse mai riusciremo a vedere questo fantastico pezzo in una vetrina dei nostri "polverosi" musei. I know, I know in this blog we are not talking about Trilobites but a such important discovery must have a special prize in our Blog.
Some Months ago in Wyoming, in fossiliferous layers of Green river Fromation, was discovered a new specimen of "Protohippus sp." We are not sure about Genus (because it is under study) so was just to label this fantastic small horse. The earliest evidence of this “little horse” is found in the middle Eocene of Wyoming, about 2 million years after the first appearance of Hyracotherium. The two-three genera coexisted during the Eocene, these to testify the incredibile variation of genera
"Olive" the Eocene horse was found in the Green River Formation near Kemmerer Wyoming earlier this year by Mark and Mike Oliver. The Oliver brothers immediately knew upon discovery they had found something special and decided to call in for expert help. They called on jason cooper and Brock Sisson of dinosaur dynasty who combined have over 30 years of experience in a myriad of different types of fossil excavation. The animal was immediately determined by dinosaur dynasty to be of a horse like ancestor. After discussing the importance of this find with the Oliver brothers, Jason and Brock took great caution and diligence over the next couple days to excavate the 22 inch animal from its eroding hillside grave. When the animal was excavated and securely taking away from any environmental threats such as the weather the real work began. Dinosaur dynasty enlisted the help of Ben Cooper from the American Paleo company. Ben has over 10 years experience at mastering microscopic based fossil preparation. Ben's work can be seen on display at such prestigious institutions as the American museum of natural History (AMNH) in New York,The Houston Museum of natural science (HMNS), Cincinnati Museum of Natural History and so on. Olive spent 7.5 weeks at the Cincinnati-based American Paleo company before returning to dinosaur dynasty in Utah. Once back in Utah a two week long collaborative effort ensued between Ben, Brock and Jason to discuss the final stages of this incredible project and secure the longevity of this fossil for centuries to come.In late July when the group was content with their achievements Olive was ready for the photographer and her public Debut.
